A Walk That Sparked a Thought

I’m one of those people who can’t stay inside when the sun finally decides to make an appearance. You probably know that about me by now that I’m an avid walker. I even wrote an article about the 10 best hiking spots I’m hoping to cross off my bucket list.

The Light After The Rain (Literally)

Well, after a string of soggy, rainy days, the clouds finally broke this week. The moment I saw that little patch of blue sky, I hit the Riverwalk for some quick steps and a little vitamin D.

As I made my way down the path, I noticed something that instantly made me smile — workers were starting to wrap Christmas lights around the trees along the river. Yep, it’s happening already. And honestly? It gave me that warm, fuzzy feeling that only the holiday season can bring.

The Spirit Sneaks Up on You Early

There’s just something about seeing lights wrapped around trees in late October that hits differently. It’s like a gentle reminder that the holidays are coming. But it also got me thinking about my own annual light tradition. Every year, around this time my bad calls me to be his helper like I’m Russ and he’s Clark Griswold and we get ready to put the lights on the roof while it’s not freezing cold out.

Why Now Is the Perfect Time

If you’ve ever tried to hang lights in December, or even late November you already know it can be freezing and unenjoyable. Between the cold fingers, the gusty winds, and the slippery shingles, it can turn into a battle.

That’s why right now is honestly the best time to get those lights up. The weather’s mild, the ground’s dry, and you can take your time without rushing before the first big frost. Even if you don’t plan on flipping the switch until after Thanksgiving, getting them in place early makes the season a lot less stressful.

It's Never Too Early For Joy

Think of it as getting ahead of the holiday chaos as one small thing is checked off your list before the hustle of shopping, baking, and wrapping takes over. Maybe that’s what we all need right now: a little reminder of joy on the horizon. The sparkle, the glow, the comfort of traditions we look forward to every year. So if you’ve been debating whether it’s too early to hang your lights, I say go for it. The weather’s right, the timing’s perfect, and the season’s spirit is already sneaking in.

Because let’s be honest — a few twinkle lights never hurt anyone.
