The one-day closure is necessary to complete critical water main maintenance, which aims to improve service reliability for customers in the area.

Detours and Local Access

During the project, all through traffic will be detoured to 7th Street, with detour signage clearly posted at the intersections of 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue.

While drivers won't be able to pass through the work zone, residential and business access along South 6th Street will remain open, according to the press release.

Completion Timeline and Safety Reminders

Work is expected to wrap up by the end of the day on November 4, depending on weather conditions.

City crews remind motorists traveling through the construction area to obey posted speed limits, watch for workers, and use extra caution in work zones.

Infrastructure Improvements Happening Around Rockford

Another busy Rockford street will be closing later this week for repairs on a water main.

According to a City of Rockford press release, Rural Street in Rockford will close to through traffic between Regan Street and North Prospect Street on Friday, October 31, beginning at 7 am.

Through traffic will be directed to Crosby Street via Summit Street and North Prospect Street. Access for residents and businesses within the affected area will remain open.
