Rockford Construction Projects to Cause Delays on Major Roads

Driving down South Alpine Road near Collins Aerospace, you no longer have to dodge and weave around the potholes as crews have been doing patching work around the city.

There have been some minor delays due to these repairs, but a longer road closure on Alpine Road is expected to cause longer traffic delays in the upcoming weeks.

Northbound Alpine Road to Close for Water Main Work

According to a press release from the City of Rockford Public Works, a section of busy N. Alpine Road will have delays due to closures next week.

Beginning next Monday (June 9), all northbound lanes of North Alpine Road between Brookview Road and Spring Creek Road will be completely closed for a major water main replacement project.

The closure is expected to be completed by the end of Wednesday (June 11), weather permitting. Local access for residents and businesses in the construction zone will still be available.

Detours will be marked to guide traffic, and motorists are being urged to obey posted work speed limits and keep their eyes open for road workers in the area.

Whitman Street Lane Reductions Begin June 5

Phase 2 of the Whitman Street Reconstruction project continues, and a new stage in the project will temporarily close some lanes in the area.

According to the City of Rockford, North Church Street will be reduced to one southbound through lane and one eastbound turn lane starting on Thursday, June 5.

This portion of the Whitman Street project will install a new water main between North Church Street and Horsman Street. Traffic control measures will be in place around the construction zone during the work.

The work is expected to be completed by Friday, June 6, depending on weather conditions.

Funding for These Improvement Projects

Both construction efforts are funded through the City of Rockford's 1% Infrastructure Sales Tax, the Water Replacement Improvement Account, and the Four Rivers Sanitation Authority.
