Severe Weather Causes Widespread Damage Across Illinois

Governor JB Pritzker has issued a Disaster Proclamation following a series of severe storms that struck Illinois from July 13 to July 16.

According to a press release, the Proclamation by the Illinois Governor covers storm devastation in Cook County, Henry County, Fulton County, St. Clair County, Washington County, Winnebago County, and Will County.

Local Resources Depleted, State and Federal Aid Required

The storms, which brought torrential rain, high winds, and flooding, have exhausted local resources, prompting a call for state and federal assistance.

Governor Pritzker emphasized the necessity of mobilizing every available resource to accelerate recovery and provide relief to affected communities.

A severe weather system resulted in 6.5 inches of precipitation, causing flash floods, tornadoes, and widespread power outages.

The storms led to significant property damage, blocked roadways, and disruptions to transportation. These conditions have slowed work efforts and affected homeowners, businesses, utilities, and local governments across the state, according to the press release.

Request for Federal Assistance and Immediate Action

In response to the crisis, Governor Pritzker has requested a federal Major Disaster Declaration through FEMA.

If approved, this would enable communities to access additional federal resources, including individual assistance and disaster loans. The Disaster Proclamation is effective immediately, marking the beginning of intensified recovery efforts.
