Are you a crafter who is still heartbroken over the closure of all JOANN Fabrics stores? I might have good news for you!

Here's one truth about me: I love to be creative, and in my spare time I make things. My husband and I have a small side hustle making laser cut wood ornaments, signs, etc., so craft supply stores are a little slice of Heaven for me.

When news broke that JOANN Fabrics had declared bankruptcy and would be closing all of their stores, I was super bummed.

For as long as I can remember, Joann's was my go-to spot for everything from fleece and flannel to holiday ribbon and hot glue sticks. I found joy and inspiration wandering the aisles, touching all the fabrics, and grabbing a cartful of “I might need this” items, and now a silver lining has been announced that I’m kind of pumped about.

According to a new press release from Michaels:

The Michaels Companies, Inc. today announced it has successfully completed the acquisition of the intellectual property and private label brands of JOANN, including the development of the beloved Big Twist® brands as part of the Michaels portfolio.

What Does This Purchase of Joann's Mean for Illinois Crafters?

The one thing I think is most exciting about Michaels purchasing Joann Fabrics intellectual property and store brands is that this new merger will allow Michaels to expand their fabric, sewing, and yarn assortment.
