A stadium featured in a movie that helped put Rockford, Illinois on the map has burned to the ground, according to reports from NBC Los Angeles.

With wooden grandstands that date back to 1937, the Jay Littleton Ball Park in Ontario, California was used for "scenes from the 1992 Tom Hanks and Geena Davis hit 'A League of Their Own' and other Hollywood movies."

According to the report, an explosion occurred around 11:30 pm on Thursday, August 22 at the famed baseball stadium that also was used for scenes in 'Eight Men Out' and 'The Babe Ruth Story', according to NBC LA.

Confusion Over Locations Clarified: Rockford Peaches Stadium Still Standing

When I first heard a stadium from 'A League of Their Own' was on fire, I thought it was the one used for the World Series scenes in the home of the "Racine Belles."

That's actually Bosse Field in Evansville, Indiana, and is still standing and in use today by a Frontier League team called the Evansville Otters.

The Rockford Peaches stadium from the movie is located in Huntingburg, Indiana, and is called League Stadium and used as the home for the Dubois County Bombers.

Original advertisements from 'A League of Their Own' still stand in the outfield at League Stadium.

Those of us in Rockford know the REAL field of dreams for Professional Women's Baseball is Beyer Stadium where the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League's Rockford Peaches played from 1943 to 1954.
