Friday Gunshot Victim Detained for Outstanding Warrants

Rockford Police officers responded to a local hospital on Friday afternoon (10/25). after receiving a report of a walk-in gunshot victim, who ended up being a wanted felon.

According to a press release from the Rockford PD, when officers arrived at the hospital around 2:40 pm Friday, they met with the 28-year-old gunshot victim who was identified as Emmanuel Hunter.

Hunter had reportedly received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, according to the press release.

During the investigation, officers discovered that Hunter was wanted by both the U.S. Marshal Service and the Dane County (WI) Sheriff’s Department. Following treatment for his injury, Hunter was taken into custody and lodged in the County Jail on his outstanding warrants.

Early Morning Juvenile Arrest Involving Firearm

In a separate incident early Saturday morning, October 26, 2024, Rockford Police SCOPE officers encountered two 16-year-old males walking in the 1600 block of Evergreen Street at around 1:05 a.m. Officers observed one of the juveniles discarding a firearm during their approach.

According to the Rockford PD report, officers recovered the loaded handgun and detained both juveniles. One of the 16-year-olds was taken to Juvenile Detention, while the other was released to a parent or guardian.

Charges Authorized by State’s Attorney’s Office

After reviewing the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges for one of the juveniles, who now faces charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and possessing a firearm without a valid FOID card.
