A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 3 pm on Thursday (3/9) through Friday (3/10) at 7 am for Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry County.

Rockford could get 4 to 7 inches of accumulation by Friday morning, with the possibility of snow rates reaching 1 inch per hour on Thursday evening.

Shoveling could be hazardous with the heavy, wet snow that's expected to fall, according to the National Weather Service.

Here comes another round of winter weather into the upper midwest, and this time Northern Illinois could get more than half a foot of snow in some areas.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, the Rockford area will begin to get a rain/snow mix after noon this Thursday (3/9) and will turn to all snow on Thursday night.

Snow is likely again on Friday (3/10) with a 60 percent chance of precipitation according to the current NWS forecast, and then another chance on Saturday night (3/11).

For the Chicagoland area, the forecast has a rain/snow mix beginning Thursday night (3/9), followed by a 60 percent chance of snow before noon on Friday (3/10).

In Wisconsin, the National Weather Service is predicting snow to begin in this afternoon this Thursday and continue through Friday with 3 to 5 inches of accumulation possible in Janesville and Madison.

While the National Weather Service hasn't predicted any snowfall totals for Illinois as of the time this article was published, the Weather Channel is being a little more aggressive.

The current forecast for Rockford from the Weather Channel predicts snow beginning in the afternoon on Thursday (3/9) and 3 to 5 inches of accumulation by Thursday night. Friday night (3/10) there's another 50 percent chance of snow with accumulations of less than an inch.

The current forecast from the Weather Channel has another 50 percent chance of snow for the Rockford area on Saturday (3/11) and Sunday (3/12), but accumulations on both days are expected to be less than an inch.
