For National Ice Cream Month Get to Illinois Oldest Shop
It’s national ice cream month! While finding ice cream isn’t hard in 2025, finding the oldest ice cream establishment in Illinois may be. You could be forgiven for thinking that the oldest ice cream shop in Illinois is in Chicago. There are probably some there that will make the claim, but there’s only one “oldest” and it’s located in Moline.
Lagomarcino's since 1908
Lagomarcino’s Soda Shop downtown in Moline opened up in 1908 and began scooping out ice cream not long after. Today they make their own chocolates, serve up lunch and still have their cozy mahogany booths to slide into like so many generations previous.
The family still owns the establishment and has prepared the next generation (the 4th) to keep the old ways going moving forward in the 21st century. In a world that is full of quick money now schemes Lagomarcino’s stands against the trending tides and keeps doing things the ways that have always worked.
Scoops Up for National Ice Cream Month!
They have a second location in East Davenport, Iowa -but that didn’t happen until 1997. If you want the original in all its glory, get to downtown Moline and taste what has worked for well over one hundred years.
