Laws are there for a reason. And sometimes, they're so strange that you can't help but scratch your head and remind yourself about that.

One of my biggest fears is that I'm secretly doing something wrong and am going to get in trouble. That's especially the case with laws! That fear bubbled up when I saw this question trending... "Can you legally park on your own lawn in the state of Illinois?"

Yeah, that question and concern didn't even pop into my head UNTIL NOW! We all probably have done this at some point in time, right? Could it really be that bad?

Can You Legally Park On Your Lawn in Illinois?

Like I've said, we've all had to do this at one point or another. Whether you're doing housework or moving in heavy items, to me it's almost inevitable.

Well, take a breather, because according to the state of Illinois, it is legal! As long as you're not in the way of any fire hydrants or emergency equipment, you're good on that one.

However, for us in Rockford, we do have one small ordinance that may prohibit parking on our lawns. According to WGN9,

The City [Rockford] has ordinances prohibiting parking of any "inoperable motor vehicle" from being parked more that 7 days on either public or private property, because they contribut to blight.

The rule is basically there to protect the community against rodents, fire hazards, any type of contamination or possible exposure to harmful vehicle parts.

So there you have it! A good new thing to know, so now I don't have to be concerned about getting in trouble haha!
