It's a sad day for those who were planning to go swimming at the beach in Chicago.

This is precisely the reason why I avoid water at all costs. I agree, it can be so much fun to swim, boat or surf, but there are serious dangers to be aware of before you even think of hitting the beach.

Life-Threatening Waves Lead to All-Beach Swimming Ban in Chicago

After a series of deadly waves and currents appeared, the city of Chicago decided that the dangers were bad enough to ban swimming for the day.

Today, the National Weather Service issued a beach hazard warning. This warning was due to 7-foot tall waves and deadly currents appearing in Lake Michigan. The Park District has also gone so far as to prohibit swimming, even in inland areas.

According to BlockClubChicago.org, people were urged to avoid piers, not go out on jetties or anything involving being around the shoreline.

Even the thought of seeing waves that massive is enough to make me sick to my stomach. I can't even imagine, and quite frankly don't want to!

As far as I know now, the ban was in effect until at least 3PM CST. However, there are still many areas that are under bans and warnings.
